About
This course offers an in-depth exploration of the Incident Command System (ICS) for individuals who will oversee or manage expanding incidents. It builds upon the foundational concepts of ICS 100 and ICS 200, preparing participants to effectively manage larger, more complex incidents that may span multiple operational periods or require significant resource coordination.
Introduction
Effective incident management is crucial for minimizing damage and ensuring public safety during emergencies. As incidents grow in size and complexity, the need for a standardized, scalable, and adaptable management structure becomes paramount. ICS 300 focuses on the principles and practices required to manage these "expanding incidents," typically classified as Type 3 incidents. This includes understanding how to effectively scale the ICS organization, manage a larger influx of resources, and implement robust planning processes to ensure a coordinated and efficient response.
Course Objectives
Upon completing this course, participants will be able to:
-
Understand the principles of managing expanding incidents within the ICS framework.
-
Describe how the ICS organization expands and contracts to meet incident needs.
-
Develop and implement an Incident Action Plan (IAP) for expanding incidents.
-
Effectively manage and track resources in a larger incident.
-
Understand the application of Unified Command in multi-jurisdictional or multi-agency incidents.
-
Describe the processes for transfer of command, demobilization, and incident closeout for expanding incidents.
